What are Pearl Clasps?
Pearls are expensive and a string of pearls can be worth several thousands dollars so jewelry designers came up with this wonderful clasp with a double safe mechanism to ensure that you will not accidentally loose your pearls. A pearl clasp is meant to be a little more difficult to open than most clasps. They are intricatly designed to complement the most elegant of pearls. You can find these clasps to support a single strand, a double strand or a triple strand of pearls. Here are some examples of pearl clasps (the square ones are sometimes called box clasps).
How do I open a Pearl Clasp?
A pearl clasp is meant to be a little more difficult to open than most clasps. To open a pearl clasp you need to squeeze and pull the end with the ring and little tabs sticking out. The U-shaped hook will come out but it is still hooked around the post of the filigree portion of the tab. That is what makes it double safe. Even if it opens it is still hooked. Simply slide it out from around the post. To close it, hook around the post and push till you hear a click.
